What I’m Leaving Behind in 2015
by Henrik Bacilieri
This year taught me a lot about what I want in life.
But maybe more importantly, it showed me what I don’t want.
So as I close out 2015, I’ve been thinking about what I’m leaving behind.
Some of it is financial.
Some of it is personal.
All of it matters.
🧹 1. I’m Leaving Behind Emotional Spending
The kind where you buy something just to feel better.
Or to impress someone.
Or because “I deserve it.”
That mindset kept me broke.
In 2016, I want every dollar to have a job—and “numbing my emotions” isn’t a job.
🧹 2. I’m Leaving Behind Excuses
“I didn’t grow up with this knowledge.”
“I don’t earn enough yet.”
“I’ll start saving when things are more stable.”
No more.
I’ve seen what happens when I take one small step every day. It builds.
Excuses don’t.
🧹 3. I’m Leaving Behind Shame
I’ve made mistakes with money. I’ve felt stupid.
I’ve looked around and seen people ahead of me and felt like I was behind.
But I’m realizing—nobody starts at the same place.
And comparing stories does more harm than good.
In 2016, I’m choosing grace and growth.
I’m not perfect. I’m just showing up.
And that’s enough.
Let’s keep going.
Not just into a new year—but into a better version of ourselves.
