How I Saved My First $1,000 (And Why It Changed Everything)

by Henrik Bacilieri

I’ve officially saved $1,000.

It might not seem like much to some people, but for me?
This feels like a breakthrough.

I used to believe I couldn’t save because I didn’t earn enough.
What I’ve learned over the past 7 months is:

Saving isn’t about income—it’s about discipline and intention.

Here’s exactly how I got there, and how it’s already changing how I see money—and myself.

💵 Step 1: I Paid Myself First (Even When It Hurt)

Every time I got paid, the first thing I did was move $40 to $50 to savings.
Not after bills. Not after food.
Before everything.

I treated it like a bill I had to pay.

There were weeks where that meant less comfort—no takeout, no fun, no extras.
But I started seeing the number grow, and that felt better than anything I could buy.

📊 Step 2: I Tracked Every Dollar

I didn’t just try to “be better” with money.
I measured it.

Using my spreadsheet (which I update every Sunday), I learned:

  • My average weekly spending

  • Where I overspent emotionally (usually weekends)

  • How much I could realistically save without burning out

Data gave me direction. And direction gave me momentum.

🧠 Step 3: I Rewired How I Think

The biggest win wasn’t just the $1,000—it was the identity shift.

I went from:

“I’m bad with money”
to
“I’m someone who saves. I’m someone who’s building something.”

That’s what I carry with me now.
Not fear. Not shame. Just quiet, daily progress.

If you’re starting from zero—just know it’s possible.
One disciplined week at a time.
